Introduction

The Village Montessori Nursery opened in September 1999.

The nursery offers sessions to children aged 2½ (or slightly younger if ready) to 5 years in a bright, self-contained environment (including a secure outdoor play area) purposely prepared to enable each child to benefit in terms of his/her social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.

We aim to offer the children an informal, fun-filled session, providing them with a good selection of materials and activities carefully chosen to promote learning and play.  The Montessori philosophy forms the basis of the nursery’s practice.  The children are free to choose their activities (their work cycle), with practitioners providing guidance to meet each individual’s needs.  Consequently, each child works at his/her own pace so there is no competition.  We aim to meet all requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and follow each individual child to meet his/her needs through the Montessori curriculum, practice and philosophy.  In addition to the Montessori curriculum, we also place a great deal of importance on the concept of play, both indoors and outdoors, and provide numerous activities to encourage play in all its forms.

The Village Montessori Nursery is a member of the Early Years Alliance.

In March 2018 Debbie Palmer was named as “Montessori Practitioner of the Year 2018” at the Montessori Schools Association National Conference.

In July 2022 the Village Montessori Nursery was graded “Good” by OFSTED.
